base2stay™ hotel near Kensington Palace
Kensington was chosen as the ideal location for the first base2stay™ hotel not only because it is a wonderful and safe upmarket area, right between Gloucester Road and Earls Court, but is also very convenient for public transport right across London and offers a wide range of local services - making this an ideal "base2stay".
Kensington is just to the west of Central London and lies within the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea.
It's mainly known as a particularly wealthy residential area, but also contains the "museum district" of South Kensington, with the Science Museum, the Natural History Museum and the Victoria & Albert Museum being across the road from each other, and the Royal Albert Hall just a short walk away.
To the north, Kensington is bordered by Hyde Park and Notting Hill and to the east, it adjoins Brompton and Knightsbridge. To the south lies Chelsea with Earls Court and Hammersmith on its western border.
The name Kensington is probably a derivation from the Saxon tribe or family of Kensings.
